Which would branch would be better?

I'm 18 and female. I really want out of this town but I don't want to make any hasty decisions that will affect me for years. The two branches I'm really focused on are the army and marines. I really like both for very similar and different reasons but my friends and family say only horrible things about the marines and how they treat women. Any advice?
