What Happened to the Knight in Tarot?

Historically speaking, modern playing cards came from the tarot decks, with the suits being based off the Clubs/Wands, Diamonds/Coins, Swords/Spades and Hearts/Cups. All the 'face' cards came too, that is 'King', 'Queen' etc with 'Pages' being transferred over as 'Jacks'. But what about 'Knights'? Why were they not translated over into the modern playing deck? More to the point, the Knight of Swords is my significator--does that mean that in the long run, we 'Knights' don't hold the same significance as the 'Pages'?
