Need a little interior design advice!?

My husband and I want to re-do our kitchen, but want to do most of it ourselves. Is it appropriate to pay for interior design advice if we only need help picking colors and floor choices. We aren't good at decorating, but I don't want to insult a professional by just asking for advice and not giving them a big job.
